Description

Sitting on the water’s edge overlooking a lake lies a unique hideaway. Ty ar Stang is a carefully restored charming 3 bedroomed thatched cottage oozing sophistication.

Located in a panoramic setting Ty ar Stang provides an exquisite comfortable and elegant level of self-catering holiday home accommodation designed for the more discerning traveller who appreciates five-star accommodation. This is truly a place where you can get away from it all, with a peaceful and relaxed vibe with it’s many picture windows that flows the Connemara breeze as it whispers throughout every room.

The cottage is situated on the outskirts of Ballyconneely Village which offers a restaurant, bar and 2 grocery shops. Ballyconnelly & Mannin Bay is well known for their stunning white beaches. Discover some of the most breathtaking scenery in the West of Ireland on horseback beside the Atlantic Ocean. Ride along dazzling sandy beaches and wide-open countryside. Arrange a picnic on one of the many glorious beaches, visit Gurteen or Dog’s Bay in Roundstone or Dun Loughan beach a surfers paradise, take a boat trip out to Inishbofin or Inishturk Islands. There are many walking, fishing tours, something for all the family to enjoy and explore the spectacular views of the sea and mountains of Connemara.

Layout

This cleverly designed house incorporates the beautiful lake & country side views throughout.

The main room is the heart of the cottage offering a multi-functional open living space feeling warm, welcoming and cosy. With the careful placement of furniture each area functions very well, from the cosy seating areas by the fires, the snug area overlooking the lake awaiting you to clink your glasses around the formal dining table. Opposite this snug is a fully equipped kitchen housing all ones needs to cook up that perfect dish.

There are two feature stoves either side of the room creating wonderful seating areas to relax and entertain family or friends or creates a warm & cosy place to snuggle up and read a book with a glass of wine. The neutral palette in the main room creates a calm and stylish feel and keeps the combination of the original cottage and the newer extension together.

The left wing is the original cottage where the master suite, double bedroom and main bathroom is situated. The master suite contains a bright and airy bedroom with stunning lake & countryside views, fitted wardrobe, stove, couch, desk and separate bathroom. The second double bedroom offers lake views also, fitted wardrobes and large flat screen TV. There is a separate bathroom.

The third bedroom (twin beds) is situated in the roof/mezzanine area accessed from the main room. The low ceiling creates a cosy and cottagey feel. Bedside lighting provides a warming glow whilst watching the stars at night.  A perfect room for kids.

There is a separate wc in the porch area beside the front door.

The unfenced patio to the front of the house has steps leading to the water where you can fish from the rocks or launch dinghies. There is ample outdoor furniture to dine al fresco or sit and relax with a drink whilst watching the sun go down. Small children need to be supervised.

The cottage is located in a secure gated graveled courtyard shielded with mature shrubs. There is ample car parking spaces. During your stay you may receive a visit from a couple of Connemara ponies in the nearby field!!

Across the courtyard you will find a building housing a wash & utility room with a separate washing machine & dryer. Perfect place to shower kids with sandy toes! This area is ideal for storing outdoor gear, fishing equipment or bikes.

Local Info

Only 6.4km from the Connemara Championship Golf Course, there is a bar and restaurant to enjoy. Ballyconneely Village is approximately 2 mins drive from the house which offers a bar, restaurant, 2 local shops, playground and church. Connemara Sands Boutique hotel also offers gourmet dining along with a cocktail bar (which is a must!), here you will also find a Spa offering a seaweed bath.

Clifden town ‘the Capital of Connemara’ is oozing history, heritage, culture & traditions of Irish Music and Dance. This vibrant town has an array of shops selling top quality gifts, trinket souvenirs and handmade knits but to name a few! You will also find boutiques, antique shops and art galleries. There are cosy coffee shops, pubs from the genuine ‘quaint-Irish’ to the more trendy where entertainment is plentiful. Whatever your taste in music you will find a selection of traditional, modern music and dance. Clifden has a reputation for the West’s ‘Gourmet Capital’ – for its fine restaurants. Take the kids to the town playground where they can have fun on the swings or have a kick about in the pitch beside it!

A must visit is the ruins of the old D’Arcy mansion, Clifden Castle. Along the Sky Road is a gateway leading to the castle. Once a Gothic Mansion, the D’Arcy’s lived here until 1850 when the estate was sold to the Eyre Family who lived here at intervals until the castle fell into ruin in the early 20th century.

There are many fine festivals to enjoy throughout the year in Connemara. Most full of music, dance, fun, laughter, activities and games for the young and the young-at-heart. The most well known and oldest of all is the Clifden Community Arts Festival which offers a superb range of poetry readings, lectures, recitals, traditional music, concerts and comedy

At the summit of the Sky Road peninsula there is Eyrephort beach at the edge of the Atlantic Ocean.

For those Rainy Days, the Station House Theatre shows the latest movies throughout the week. The theatre also runs live family friendly shows suitable for all ages throughout the summer season.

Why not visit Dan O’Haras homestead (7 minute drive from Clifden town on the N59); an award winning heritage centre which offers a fascinating glimpse of rural Ireland in the mid-nineteenth century. Visitors can enjoy a carriage ride through the centre and see demonstrations of turf cutting, sheep herding and other traditional tasks.

Explore Connemara on an electric bike which can be hired from All Things Connemara (on Market Street) or take part in a bike tour with Connemara Cycling Tours (also on Market Street)

Clifden Friday Market takes place every Friday on Market Square where you will find a wide variety of producers selling their fresh produce to the general public. Be sure to arrive early, as most of the produce and stalls are gone by noon. There’s a good selection of organic vegetables, homemade breads, pies, herbs, fruits, flowers, plants and some clothing.

Clifden has probably the best fishing waters in Europe. The scenery in this area is spectacular on land and at sea with a great variety of seabirds and wildlife, including seals and dolphins. Approximately, 4km from Clifden Town Centre, you will find a delightful Pitch and Putt course, which is suitable for all ages and a great activity that the whole family will enjoy!

Kylemore Abbey, Connemara National Park, Connemara Smokehouse are within the surrounding area along with ample white sandy beaches, surfing, cycling, mountain climbing, fishing and much much more.

Connemara has long been regarded as the real emerald of Ireland ‘Connemara is a savage beauty’ Oscar Wilde. Connemara’s landscape will take your breath away, golf competitions and horse riding on wonderful open grassland. . Boat races, regattas, music festivals, marathons, activity events all take place throughout the year.
