Enjoy a true Irish experience at Pierse Cottage Cashel an original Irish cottage with a traditional half door that was originally used to ventilate the house whilst keeping the children in and keeping the livestock out!

The cottage has a traditional hearth with original stone seats built into the sides also known as the hobs.

This cozy, charming romantic cottage is beautifully situated in a magical, quiet, and peaceful location set on an elevated site overlooking the Twelve Bens mountain range and beside the
sea at Bertraghboy Bay. Ideal for anglers, bird watchers, walkers, cyclists, or those wishing to get away from it all.

The cottage is a short distance to Cashel Bay Hotel and the Zetland Country House Hotel and 15 minutes from the internationally renowned Ballynahinch Castle where one can enjoy fine
dining or a meal in the bar. The small fishing village of Roundstone with its colorful shops, bars restaurants, and two of the finest beaches in Ireland, Dogs Bay and Gurteen Beach, is a
20-minute drive. There are many activities to enjoy within Connemara such as horse riding on the beach, fishing, scuba diving, surfing, and lots more. A must-visit is Kylemore Abbey and the Connemara National Park. Enjoy a round of golf at the Connemara Championship Golf Course in Ballyconneely or take the ferry to the Arran Islands or the Isle of Inishboffin from Rossaveal or Cleggan.

This hidden haven is a great base for touring this scenic area and all that Connemara has to offer.

Cashel:

Lying at the head of the beautiful Cashel Bay the townland derives its name from the ring fort or Cashel which surrounds the present day graveyard. Cashel Hill stands majestic at the top of the bay. It is worth taking a walk up this hill. From the summit one can behold some of the most breathtaking views of the surrounding area. There is also a megalithic tomb. Hundreds of lakes lie amid the bogs, the Twelve Bens and Maamturks to the north and the sandy coves and glistening seaweed of the waters of Bertraghboy Bay.

There is golf and pitch and putt, both on magnificent links courses and stunning inland locations. Fishing on rivers lakes and the sea, could reward you with salmon, trout, cod, ling and even tuna. Our quiet minor roads are perfect for cycling.

Carna:

Carna is a small coastal area in south Connemara which is in the heart of the Gaeltacht (Irish speaking) area of Connemara. Carna is a small area, but it has a large enough influence on the surrounding areas in Connemara as it contains a Garda Síochána station, a Health Centre including a Rapid Response Ambulance and it also houses an Irish Coastguard lifeboat. Carna is located close to the village of Cill Chiarain and they share the peninsula locally called Iorras Aithneach.

There are 4 shops and 3 pubs located in Cana Village. A bus is also based in Carna that brings passengers between Carna and Galway City picking up passengers along the N59.

There are several beautiful white sandy beaches to be found in the Carna area. Mynish, Moyrus, Callowfeenish & Feenish Island are lovely, quite and secluded beaches where you will find some of the most breath taking sea views in Connemara

There are plenty of delightful local walks in the Connemara where you can discover the local beaches, bog lands, flora and fauna and take some excellent holiday snaps!

Carna is a 40 minute drive from the famous Connemara Golf links course in Ballyconneely. Barna golf course is approx 68 km away from Carna Village (about an hour drive). Oughterard Golf Course is approx 52 Km away (50 minute drive). There is also a picturesque Pitch and Putt course approx a 15 minute drive away.

Avid Fisher? There is numerous spots along the Carna Coastline where you can go shore angling

Clifden town:

‘The Capital of Connemara’ is oozing history, heritage, culture & traditions of Irish Music and Dance. This vibrant town has an array of shops selling top quality gifts, trinket souvenirs and handmade knits but to name a few! You will also find boutiques, antique shops and art galleries. There are cosy coffee shops, pubs from the genuine ‘quaint-Irish’ to the more trendy where entertainment is plentiful. Whatever your taste in music you will find a selection of traditional, modern music and dance. Clifden has a reputation for the West’s ‘Gourmet Capital’ – for its fine restaurants. Take the kids to the town playground where they can have fun on the swings or have a kick about in the pitch beside it!

A must visit is the ruins of the old D’Arcy mansion, Clifden Castle. Along the Sky Road is a gateway leading to the castle. Once a Gothic Mansion, the D’Arcy’s lived here until 1850 when the estate was sold to the Eyre Family who lived here at intervals until the castle fell into ruin in the early 20th century.

Approximately, 4km from Clifden Town Centre, you will find a delightful Pitch and Putt course, which is suitable for all ages and a great activity that the whole family will enjoy!

Clifden Sailing Club also run sailing lessons for kids in the Summer.

Connemara has long been regarded as the real emerald of Ireland ‘Connemara is a savage beauty’ Oscar Wilde. Connemara’s landscape will take your breath away, golf competitions and horse riding on wonderful open grassland. . Boat races, regattas, music festivals, marathons, activity events all take place throughout the year.

Roundstone:

The village of Roundstone lies on the western arm of Bertraghboy bay in Connemara, Co. Galway, 48 miles (77km) north-west of Galway city. This Connemara village is beautifully set on one of the most spectacular coastal drives in Ireland overlooking the Atlantic at the foot of Errisbeg Mountain.

Letterfrack:

Letterfrack is a quaint small village set in the heart of Connemara in direct vicinity to some of Connemara’s main attractions. It is easily accessible from the capital of Clifden which is just a short ten minute drive away. Letterfrack is located at the foot of the Connemara National Park which creates a sense of atmosphere. There are 3 pubs, a grocery shop, hair-dresser and takeaway in Letterfrack Village. Veldons Seafarer, Cloverfox and The Lodge serve delicious food throughout the day and in the evening time. Don’t forget to make a trip to Avoca! Situated just outside Letterfrack village!

For less experienced walkers and families, the Diamond Hill Trail in the Connemara National Park is well sign-posted and highly accessible and those who make it to the top are rewarded with expansive panoramic vistas across Connemara. There are four trails in Connemara National Park. A must when you visit Connemara. There is also a lovely on-site coffee shop and great playground for the kids.

Kylemore:

Irelands most visited tourist attraction – Set in the dramatic Connemara landscape, Kylemore Abbey is the no. 1 “must-see” attraction in the west of Ireland. The castle was originally built by Mitchell Henry in 1867 as a romantic gift for his beloved wife. In 1920 the Benedictine Community came to Kylemore and Kylemore castle became Kylemore Abbey. The 1000 Kylemore estate is steeped in history with tales of tragedy and romance, engineering initiatives, model farms, royal visits, spirituality and education.
Visit the estate and experience the Victorian atmosphere of the restored rooms of the Abbey, miniature Gothic Church and Head Gardener’s House. There are many nature trails, woodland and lakeshore walks and a children’s play trail waiting to be discovered. Explore the magical 6 acre Victorian walled garden where onyx Victorian verities of flowers and vegetables are grown.

Aran Islands from Rossaveal:

Why not spend the day on the Aran Islands via Rossaveal. Check out the ferry times online to book your fun fill day with the family. This is a very popular day out and highly recommended so make sure to book in advance. There are 3 rocky isles which are together named the Aran Islands which guard the Galway Bay.

Galway City:

Galway is a harbour city in the West of Ireland and is a very popular tourist destination for those visiting the country; it is a picturesque and lively city. Known as Irelands Cultural Heart, Galway is renowned for its vibrant lifestyle and numerous festivals, celebrations and events throughout the year. In 2004, there were three dance organisations, ten festival companies, two film organisations, two Irish language organisations, 23 musical organisations, twelve theatre companies, two visual arts groups, and four writers’ groups based in the city.
Fancy a flutter? The Galway Races is well worth a visit and a very popular and busy week in Galway City! The races take place during the last week in July. The Galway Arts Festival (also in July) is well worth a visit, as well as the Bulmers Comedy Festival that takes place in October.

Westport:

Westport is full of picturesque views and has much to do from bars and restaurants to activities for everyone to enjoy. If you are feeling like taking on a challenge you can climb Croagh Patrick Mountain which is 764m and is an important site of Pilgrimage of Co.Mayo.
