A must visit is the ruins of the old D’Arcy mansion, Clifden Castle. Along the Sky Road is a gateway leading to the castle. Once a Gothic Mansion, the D’Arcy’s lived here until 1850 when the estate was sold to the Eyre Family who lived here at intervals until the castle fell into ruin in the early 20th century.

There are many fine festivals to enjoy throughout the year in Connemara. Most full of music, dance, fun, laughter, activities and games for the young and the young-at-heart. Testimonials

“Beautiful Space and View!  The space was beautifully set up and had everything we needed for our stay.  The location was both stunning and peaceful yet only a few feet from the town centre.  We will be back!” – Jocelyn May 2022

“We have been to Clifden before but never stayed close to the town.  Helen’s Hideaway was a mere 300m from the main street and perfectly placed.  It’s dog friendly too and ours didn’t waste time heading dowm to the water.  The winter sun (when it appeared) beamed in the windows all day and the view is really peaceful.  The apartment was roomy, beds comfy, plenty of hot water and catered for everything.  We would certainly stay there again next time.” – Kevin March 2022

“Lovely property in fabulous location! We liked Helen’s Hideaway so much that this is already our second visit. The apartment is spacious with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms so ideal for 2 couples or a family. It’s got everything you need including lots of lovely fluffy towels and luxurious bedding. But what makes this property so special is the location. It’s tucked away on the ground floor of a large house, with views over the estuary. Whether you are sitting enjoying the sun on the terrace (which in theory is possible the whole day but it is Ireland) or relaxing in the apartment, it feels like you are in the middle of nowhere when actually you are just a couple of minutes from the many excellent pubs, restaurants and shops that Clifden has to offer. Clifden is a charming, bustling wee town, with great facilities. The food, the drink and the music are great. And if you head out of town from the apartment along Beach Road, you are rewarded with a lovely walk along with a great pub at the end of it. There is so much to see and do in Connemara that I couldn’t begin to describe it all. The scenery is spectacular wherever you go. I can’t imagine a better location than Helen’s Hideaway as a base to discover this beautiful area.”- Alison August 2017

“Fantastic location, great view of harbour from suntrap patio. Very comfortable beds with lovely linen. Excellent bathrooms. Everything you could need. Helen is very friendly and helpful. Perfect for two couples. Be aware if you are in any way wary of steps – 40 steep ones!. i would highly recommend it.”- Mary August 2017

“Beautiful find – really nice apartment tucked away, down by the seashore – two minutes walk to shops/pubs etc. Perfect spot!”- Hazel November 2016

“We had a fantastic holiday in Helen’s Hideaway! The house is very complete, the beds are fantastic! Great view and 3 minutes walk from the centre where there are many pubs and very good restaurants! And Connemara is beautiful! Greetings from the Netherlands”- Alie September 2015

“The perfect location for a relaxed, tranquil stay but unique in it’s proximity to the town. Could not be more comfortable with the owners willing to go out of their way.”- Roisin July 2015

Helens Wonderful Hideaway

Can not fault our stay in any way. We had a 1 year old child with us, high chair and cot were provided. The apartment was bigger than expected, had everything we needed and location was perfect. You can’t go wrong staying here.

Perfect location for a large clean apartment!

We had a very good stay in this apartment. On our arrival, the cot and highchair were ready for my daughter and the owner even provided toys and stuffed animals for her. Everything was clean, rooms were large, beds were comfortable… Location is excellent as 1 min walk from grocery store and the city, while providing the feeling of the country side with a very pretty view.
I strongly recommend!

Remi – July 2014

Great location and view, upscale apartment

Owner was very friendly and provided great customer service, property was clean with new appliances. I would recommend this place. We want to go back. Clifden is a picturesque town with good local amenities and music. We enjoyed being tourists there but also felt part of the life of the town.

Modern comfort in great location!

Helen’s Hideaway is exactly how it is described- a roomy, bright and modern apartment with splendid views overlooking the sea and luxuriant greenery across the bay tucked away just at the edge of Clifden town. The apartment is impeccably clean and well appointed with all facilities, including large comfortable beds, bathrooms with power showers and high quality linen and towels. Then kitchen is well equipped with plenty of good crockery and glasses. A selection of good books and tasteful ornaments and pictures complete the good warm overall impression. The welcome is warm and the apartment is ideally situated for touring the magnificent countryside of Connemara or visiting the many wonderful beaches and availing of the other sporting facilities nearby. It is however nice to be back in town in the evening and relax and have a quiet evening in comfortable surroundings or avail of the variety of happenings and night life that Clifden has to offer.
