Beware of Ticks!!!
Ticks are small, blood-sucking arachnids found in forests, grasslands, and even urban areas, they are common in Connemara. Though tiny, they can carry diseases like Lyme disease, which is why it’s essential to be cautious when spending time outdoors.
Ticks latch onto humans and animals (dogs are particularly susceptible) feeding on their blood. They typically hide in tall grass and bushes. Wearing protective clothing, using tick repellents, and checking your body after outdoor activities are simple ways to reduce the risk of bites. You can also treat dogs before you arrive.
If you find a tick on your skin or dog, remove it carefully with O’Tom Tick Twister (found in most pharmacies) Be careful to remove the head – the trick is to twist.
Prompt removal can minimize the risk of disease transmission.
